Funded in part by a grant from the NSF, the project’s goal was to create a state-of-the-art and collaborative research environment that consolidated the various elements of the Biology and Paleo-Environment.
The project scope included the full demolition of 11,000 sf of existing research spaces on the second floor and create six new wet labs, supporting culture and optics labs, environmental rooms and equipment rooms. In addition, the second floor added a new roof link to connect the two parts of the buildings.
The LEED portion of construction included a “green roof area”. This work converted the existing roof into a promenade, with a park-like setting that included shallow succulent plantings and linked to the adjacent research office buildings. This project achieved its LEED Silver certification.
