Sordoni Construction successfully completed the renovation of IKEA’s 352,000 sf North American Flagship Store located in Elizabeth, New Jersey. As one of IKEA’s largest volume facilities in the world and operating on a 24/7 basis, Sordoni’s Construction Management team handled the complex coordination of 23 independent phases of construction without interruption to IKEA’s operations. Areas of renovation and new construction included customer self-service, product displays, cafeteria-style restaurants, a new elevator and the children’s play area.

Since Sordoni was brought on-board in the pre-construction phase, they were able to save an additional $1 million dollars through value engineering and the procurement process. The savings allowed the client to add much needed improvements including a new roof and upgrades to the loading dock and recycling center to name just a few. The project also included a complete renovation of the buildings electrical service, mechanical system, fire suppression system, building automation system and energy management system.
